DELIVERY
What is your turnaround time for translation?
Our stated turnaround times are 1-2 days for core languages and 3 days for non-core languages. We will confirm whether a language is core or non-core.
Is this all the time needed for completion of translation?
No. There are two phases: translation and then sim/qc of the file. Each has its own time requirement. In addition to translation time, we will also need 1 day for each round of sim/qc as defined below.

Please include this in your time budget. This is essential.

Who else will have access to the client files?
The Translation Czar client service team that includes the translator. After the project is completed, the translator will no longer have access.

Yes, of course. It was designed for that.

TRANSLATORS
What are the requirements of a translator working for Translation Czar?
Virtually all translators have a college degree from their home country with at least two years of work or student experience in the US or the UK.

All translators are tested initially and their work is consistently monitored.
Do you hire translators expert in their language, not educated in their home country?
No. For instance, a person cannot be an American who is expert in French and be a Translation Czar Translator. It doesn’t matter how good his French is, he will not be hired.

Similarly, a person cannot be a Swiss French and be a Translation Czar Translator for French even if that person’s French is flawless. The translator must have been educated in the country where the market research survey is designed to be executed.
Do you hire people to translate into multiple languages?
Never.
FEES / COSTS
How do you calculate per word fees?
Per word are charged off the targeted language, meaning the language TO WHICH the translation is being made. So, for example, if we are translating from English to French, your word count will be off the French.
Do you charge per word for brands or words that retain the English?
Yes. Anything in the final file will be included in the word count. We do NOT net out brands or anything from the final count.

If you do not want brands translated then you need to exclude them from the file.

Note that for brands, some brands are translated while others are not, so it’s best to keep them in the file but that is the client’s choice.
Do you have minimum charges?
Yes. There is a minimum charge per file per language and it will vary according to the details of the given project (whether it’s part of a bigger project) or a one-off, etc.

Of course, we encourage clients to aggregate any “additional” files to minimize these costs because they can add up if the client consistently asks for a paragraph here or there.
How much do you charge for open ends?
We charge the same as translation.
Do you code open ends in language?
Yes. But we expect clients to commit to translation and coding business as clients have different nuances in coding and we need that commitment to train our staff with specific client instructions. Moreover, we expect the client to provide the Coding Frame.
Do you have rush charges?
No. We have a standardized charges and do not charge for rush work. If we cannot meet your deadline, we will pass on the work.
Do you charge more for IT and Medical?
Yes, because it takes much longer. For core language IT, we will retain the stated rate. For non-core IT, we charge $.05 more per word, and for Medical, we charge $.10 more.
SPECIFIC LANGUAGE QUESTIONS
How do you handle LAS and Spanish, French and French Canadian and Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese if they are included in the same project?
Generally, we will do one of the Spanish languages first and “convert” the other and charge you for SIM/QC.

For French, we will do French first and “convert” that file for French Canadian and charge you for SIM/QC.

For Portuguese, it will depend on client preference whether to “convert” the file or have the file translated for both Portuguese and Brazilian Portuguese.
Do you translate American English to English – UK and visa versa?
We do, but this is completely unnecessary and we will state this directly to you. In four years of translation, we have yet to make a substantive change to a market research file.

The only thing that needs to be reviewed are currency and potentially local brands – neither of which are translation issues.
Do you offer non-English language to language translation?
No. Not at this time. All languages pairs include English.
FILE REVIEW / SIM QC
What is your file review process?
All files are SIM/QCed. SIM/QC is simulation and quality control which means review of the integrated file in the translated language.
How is Sim/QC done?
You give us a test link to the survey and we review it in the translated language. We will make any changes to the most recent file.
How are Sim/QC fees determined?
The stated SIM/QC is per language and this includes all “sane and reasonable” review. If client demands are beyond sane and reasonable, then we will charge you more.
How long does Sim/QC take?
You should build in 1 day for each round of SIM/QC.
How many rounds of Sim/QC are required?
At least one. If the file has a lot of changes, we will SIM/QC it again. We will continue this process until we are happy with the file.

Most files go through one or two rounds. Only files that are being changed “on the fly” by the client will go beyond two rounds.
If we do not have time to SIM/QC, can we move directly into field?
No! This is a fundamental step. It’s not “optional.” The file must be reviewed to confirm contextual accuracy as well as to ensure integration was properly executed.
BILLING
When do you bill?
We bill after completion of the translation, regardless if we are delivering sample. If there are waves for each country, we will likely bill after each wave.
What are your terms?
Our terms are Net 30.
